SEO Link Building: My Media Feature Strategy That Kills 2 Birds With 1 Stone
This SEO strategy kills two birds with one stone - giving you a SEO backlink from a authority website and generating revenue for your product or service in barely 1 month. Despite the quick effectiveness of this strategy, it is also one of the most expensive link building strategies!
But expensive strategies can be great value for money too - only if you can understand and approximate your ROI from implementing this strategy correctly.
We are talking about paid media listicle features from popular online media companies in your locality.
Let me break this Media Feature strategy down for you with an example.
Step 1: Check the demand of the main keyword you are looking to rank
Let's say you own a corporate team bonding company offering lots of team bonding activties.in Singapore.
And after doing keyword research on UberSuggest or another SEO tool, you find out that the term "team building activities Singapore" has 1900 searches a month. See below.
Make sure this main keyword is likely to be profitable for you & has a high volume of searches (At least 1000 or more)
In this case, people looking for "team building activities Singapore" are considering engaging a team bonding company and are likely to enquire with you for team building activities if they like the wide range of activities you offer.
Step 2: Search for the keyword on a Google Incognito Tab in your location & see who is ranking
When you search your main keyword on Google, you will likely see both competitors and media companies.
Competitors are websites offering the same, exact services as you.
Media companies are websites that write blog articles on different topics. They may even offer other services like video production and amplification on their social media channels, and much more.
Here are the results from my search for "Team Building Activities Singapore"
You can see that Seek Sophie, The Honeycombers, Singapore Tourism, Employment Hero & Sassy Mama Singapore are ranking.
Step 3: Shortlist the media sites and look for their contact information.
In the case of my example, the 6 sites ranking (as I write this blog post) are as follows:
Seek Sophie (Competitor)
The Honeycombers (Media company)
Singapore Tourism (Government Organisation)
Employment Hero (Employment Company)
Sassy Mama Singapore (Media company)
The Smart Local (Media company)
In this case, I contact all of the above except Seek Sophie which seems to be a competitor.
Step 4: I contact them with a request to be featured on their listicle content
Simply request for the cost of an article feature on the page that you would like
Remember to include the link to the page you would like to be featured on
Step 5: Calculate the ROI for you if you decide to work with them
When they get back to you, you can use the volume of searches for the main keyword their article is ranking for, conversion rate you expect, average revenue per conversion and the price they are charging to calculate the approximate ROI for you if you decide to work with them over a year.
If your approximate ROI is positive and you have systems in place to handle an influx of customers (once the feature placement is complete), why not work together with them? You get high authority backlinks too!
But do take note to only use this media feature strategy if you have the budget for it and there are suitable media companies in your locality that you can work with.
We hope that was useful. And don’t forget to explore cheaper and free link building strategies too!
