SEO Link Building: 5 Steps For Successful Review Collaborations With Bloggers

Sponsoring bloggers and influencers in exchange for a review of your product or service is a great way to earn backlinks to your website. Here are 5 steps for a successful review collaboration with bloggers:

Step 1: Choose a blogger to work with

When choosing bloggers to work with, take note of the following 5 criteria

  1. Their website is not spammy (E.g. Too many links, ads & promotions to the extent of turning readers away or eroding reader's trust)

  2. Not all articles in their websites are sponsored posts. They also write articles on their own.

  3. The website has good quality, engaging articles with only relevant links in articles.

  4. The website is relevant to your product or service.

  5. The website is getting good traffic and ideally is an authority website (You can use a SEO tool like SemRush or Ahrefs to check website authority)

Step 2: Contact the blogger

  • Approach them via the enquiry form on their blog or their contact information provided.

  • Tell them you would like a review of your product or service to be published on their website (with a dofollow link back to a page on your website. For more details on dofollow and nofollow links, read this article by Backlinko here.)

  • In exchange for their review, let them know you are willing to sponsor your product or service for free for them to try

Step 3: Discuss other terms

  • If they request for additional cash on top of the product or service sponsorship, it is up to your discretion. Make your decision based on the amount they are asking for and the authority of their website

  • Discuss on other terms such as length of blog content and number of images.

  • "The longer the review, the better the SEO" only applies if their content is engaging and not long winded for the sake of being lengthy. Choose a content length the blogger is confident to write for your product/service without affecting the quality of content.

  • For images, a good baseline for a blog post will be at least 1 image for every 150 to 250 words.

Step 4: Review their blog article

  • Make sure all the agreed upon terms have been met.

  • If you would like them to make minor edits, request for them nicely.

Step 5: Request for a short Google review

  • If you had a positive experience with them, you can also request for a short but genuine Google review from them about your product or service

  • Only do this if they are willing to write you a short Google review without mentioning that it was a sponsored collaboration

There you have it - 5 steps for successful product review collaboration with bloggers!

That said, results of your product review collaboration can vary & here is why

  • While more links may have a direct impact on your domain’s search rankings, this is only the case if the links are coming from websites with significant authority (or more authority than yours.)

  • Backlinks can only improve SEO if you have stellar content that is strategised with all the on page optimisation best practices I have covered in my SEO Starter Guide and subsequent weekly emails. Make sure both your content (and your blogger's review) is relevant and amazing!

  • SEO can get a little subjective and is based on best practices. Almost like art. Sometimes the same link that does not improve your ranking now, may improve your rankings many months down the road (when you have more content and authority on your site.) You never know!

Besides link building with blogger outreach and reviews, also work on other link building strategies to build the trust and credibility of your website.

Keep taking action, stay patient and reach the Google rankings that you deserve!
