Kajabi Sessions Australia 2024 Event: Success Tips, Insights & More

Kajabi Sessions Australia 2024 Event Details

How My First Ever Kajabi Event Started

Following a short farm stay holiday with family in the village of Bundanoon in Sydney, I only landed in Gold Coast on the morning of August 29. As soon as I landed, I headed to QT Gold Coast for the Kajabi event. I did not even have my accommodation booked and I had no idea what to expect. Would the Kajabi event be well worth my time and money?

Kajabi Australia 2024 Event Senthil

When I arrived, I noticed the Kajabi team had cut off my first name instead of my last name to fit my name on my name tag. Besides, I had missed the welcome note and state of the creator economy sharing. Ugh!

Kajabi Sessions Australia Senthilkumar Subramanian

Well, at least I was on time for the morning tea where I could grab an avocado sandwich!

Following the morning tea and networking, it was time for learning how to create a million dollar micro business with Tina Tower of Her Empire Builder. Though I had not heard of Tina prior to this Kajabi event, Tina’s journey of starting her first business in 2004 to creating a million dollar digital business in 2020 was truly inspiring. She shared 10 keys to building a million dollar business on Kajabi and here they are:

Kajabi Event Day 1: 10 Keys To Creating A Million Dollar Business By Tina Tower

Key 1: Let Time Do It’s Thing (Be Patient!)

When Tina shared the first of her 10 keys, on the value of patience in business, I was hooked. This key alone would have saved me from getting into over $100k of business debt years ago.

Tina also highlighted one of my favourite quotes here: “Entrepreneurship is living a few years of your life like most people won't, so you can spend the rest of your life like most people can't.” But remember, “a few years” can be 3 years for some, 5 years for others and even over 10 years for many depending on your individual circumstances, skills and resourcefulness. Regardless of the above, don’t expect success to happen overnight. Be patient. And don’t give up!

Key 2: Profit First: Pay Yourself Properly

Next, Tina highlighted the importance of paying yourself properly as a founder. Personally, she would allocate 20% of her profit as her own income first. The idea of doing this is for you to stay motivated, so that you continue to produce more output even with a little “less” money left.

Also, don’t you deserve a consistent financial reward for all the MASSIVE effort that you are putting in behind the scenes? (Yes. Online courses are not passive income!)

I loved that Tina also shared about how she allocates a portion of her profit to charity. Tina Tower provides scholarships to young ladies from subsistent farming families who want to pursue a university education.

Key 3: Spend Time on Revenue Generating Activities

This is another great tip that I have been applying to my business today. Because time is so limited for business owners given the complexity of running a business. Tina Tower follows a simple 3 step framework on what activities to say yes or no to. Simply ask yourself:

  • Does it make me money?

  • Does it enhance my customer experience?

  • Does it many me happy?

If you get at least 2 yeses above, Tina suggests that you proceed with doing the activity.

Apart from using Tina’s 3 step framework above, you can ask yourself if the activity you are spending time on is:

  • Improving on your offer! (Course or program that you sell)

  • Reaching more potential customers. (E.g. Spending time on social Media, podcasts, SEO, doing ads and much more)

  • Saving you time in the future (Systems and processes are crucial especially when you are scaling your business)

Key 4: You Can Change At Any Time

This was another tip that I could totally relate to. Being flexible and adaptable is crucial at every stage of your business. Tina’s suggestion is to review and adapt every 90 days and to always maintain a helicopter view. Another way to apply this principle is to talk to your customers often. And adapt and improve based on your customers feedback and suggestions!

Key 5: Learn From Others

Tina strongly advises joining courses and memberships that can move the needle for you. As someone investing significantly in a coach herself, Tina walks the talk indeed.

Personally, I have made it a point to continue investing in courses, coaching and events to upgrade my skills and mindset too. From Unleash Your Power Within by Tony Robbins to Business Mastery in 2020 and joining Master Implementers this year, I have benefited tremendously from learning from others. Make sure you do that too and share your knowledge with your friends!

Key 6: Get Help

Ask yourself this at every stage in your business: What help do you need to reach your upcoming goals? Because what got you to one stage will not get you to the next.

And make sure you get that help, even if it means hiring a physical or virtual team when you want to scale.

That said, make sure you hire within your budget! And don’t overspend beyond what you can afford like I did with my previous businesses.

Key 7: Those Who Market Well, Win

This tip made me smile. Because my core business revolves around helping people market better. Around helping people reach clients searching for information related to their products or services on Google!

Tina Tower shared about marketing yourself with authenticity and consistency. And being omnipresent across social media channels. She emphasised on doing ALL the marketing things too (see diagram below)!

That said, I believe that identifying 1 or 2 channels to market on and marketing really well on those channels could work for course creators too.

Just look at Justin Welsh.

He used organic marketing on LinkedIn and Twitter to grow his business to over $1 million dollars in a few years.

Key 8: Know The Tech

This one is rather obvious. But Tina emphasised on learning about the software and Ai that you can tap on to systemise and automate your business. When someone asked about the recommended tech stack, Tina pinpointed that this can differ from business to business.

The question you should be asking is not “what is the right tech stack to win?

But rather

  • What is the right tech stack for you?

Key 9: It’s Up To You

Every individual’s circumstances is different. So you decide how you show up every day.

In Tina’s words, you can also have an element of selfishness in a loving way! Like how she goes into "do not disturb me” mode and blocks off all distractions during her course launches.

Key 10: Have FUN!

I think this one needs no elaboration.

Have fun while you are at it. And you will have fun if you pick an idea to work on, that you are truly passionate about!

My favourite part about Tina' Tower’s speech was her transparency and authenticity when sharing her entrepreneurship journey.

  • She did not sugar coat or make it seem easier than it actually was.

  • She shared her numbers (such as how 58% of her customers listened to her podcast for a year or more before joining her membership).

  • Her presentation was clearly structured!

Making it easy for me to relate to her, understand her and apply her tips to my business.

Next up, at Kajabi Sessions Australia, we got to hear from the Money Mindset Mentor for people who want to make money and change the world - Denise Duffield Thomas!

Kajabi Event Day 1: The Evolution of a $20 Million Dollar Course With Denise Duffield Thomas

Denise Duffield Thomas Website

Denise Duffield Thomas was another incredible speaker with an impressive profile that Kajabi brought on stage at Kajabi Sessions Australia 2024. Her money bootcamps and practical manifesting course has over 25000 students combined and she has made over $30 million dollars in revenue “while being wildly imperfect!”

Wow.

After sharing a little about her journey, her family, her vintage cars and beautiful real estate properties she has invested in till today, Denise shared some mindset tips to adopt while on your entrepreneurship journey.

Tip 1: Set A Strong Intention

A strong believer in setting intentions, affirmations and writing it down, Denise recommended the book “The Magic of Believing” by Calude M Bristol. She emphasised that a big “why” will help you get past your fears in your entrepreneurship journey.

Tip 2: Keep It Simple

Denise shared a shocking stat of how her refund rates went up, when she tried to enhance her production quality and added more and more in depth content into her course. Her course had got “bloated”. Her customers loved and appreciated her content more when she trimmed her course again!

That was when Denise realised that “slick production has diminishing returns”. That people don’t always need more. Because more can be overwhelming to people!

What people actually want is:

  • Transformation

  • Accountability

  • Community

How can you solve a specific problem for a specific person while keeping it simple?

Focus on that!

Tip 3: You Don’t Have To Be Perfect

Denise emphasised on the importance of just doing it even while something is far from perfect. You don’t have to be perfect to make money. And Denise’s first few course launches were an example of that!

Tip 4: Celebrate Every Smallest Win

I loved how Denise said “The course which had just 1 person sign up, I saw that as a massive success”. While many of us may be aiming for “million dollar launches”, let’s not forget to celebrate and be thankful for the tiniest progress we make along the way.

Tip 5: A Half A** Ask Is Better Than No Ask

  • Be bold.

  • Ask for the sale.

  • The more times you do it, the better you will get at it!

So I asked her a few questions, won her Chill and Prosper book, and asked Denise for a picture of course.

Denise’s “secret” for growing a wildly profitable digital business on Kajabi?

To our surprise, it wasn’t half as complicated as we all thought it might be. It was just a simple 3 step formula!

Step 1: Share What You Know

Share what you know with people who want to learn from you. In Denise’s words, “fortune favours the one who just does it”. So just do it!

“Do what?” you might be asking.

First, create a course or program around what you are good at, what you love and what people will pay for. Share it with people around you who are keen on your topic.

Step 2: Make Regular (unambiguous) Offers!

Then make regular (unambiguous) offers on:

Make unambiguous offers on all channels

And Denise explains it further. Your offers must have a call to action that isn’t sleazy.

Be as direct as you can be.

Step 3: Market Your Offers!

Denise’s Marketing Plan:

Denises Marketing Plan

Simple isn’t it?

Denise reminded me that sometimes we complicate business too much!

Another Bonus Tip From Denise Duffield Thomas: Focus on Increasing Your Leads!

I had 1 more golden takeaway from Denise’s talk at the Kajabi session: that of focusing on your marketing efforts more than the conversions.

Because you cannot beat the stats.

Because conversions typically fluctuate at the 1% mark.

And there is only so much you can do to improve! Denise even displayed her conversion rates as she kept tweaking and improving on her sales pages in the diagram below:

As you can see, it is quite futile to “meddle with the back, so just focus on the front”, Denise shared humorously.

Kajabi Event Day 2: Preparing Your Business For The Unexpected With Sue McLachlan

On day 2 of Kajabi Sessions Australia, we got to hear from Sue McLachlan, the founder of The Unicorn Advisory and a top Kajabi affiliate in Australia! Sue’s speech on “Preparing Your Business For The Unexpected” started with a sharing of her inspiring journey with Kajabi.

During a point of her life, Sue encountered extreme burnout to the extent that she could not get herself to work. She even had to refund some clients, stop taking on new projects and take a complete break off work for months. Thankfully, Sue had built a “passive” income stream as a Kajabi affiliate. So she could pull through the challenging phase of her life while continuing to support her family!

Sue shared some great tips around building a safety net or passive income stream. Here they are:

Why is it important to build a safety net for your business?

Given the unpredictability of business and life, a safety net protects you when you cannot work any more. If you think you will never be in a situation where you cannot work, ask yourself these questions:

  • What if you are forced to take leave when you least want it?

  • What if you are ill or someone you know is really ill?

  • What if you get into an accident?

  • What if you go through a relationship breakdown with someone close to you?

  • What if you run into mental health issues like burnout or depression?

  • What if you lose a loved one?

With her thought provoking questions, Sue inspired me to build my safety net which I had neglected all this while. If you too are looking to build your safety net, there are 3 ways you can get started.

Method 1 For Building A Safety Net: Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing refers to earning a commission by promoting someone else's products. As an affiliate, you will need to find products you love and share it around. You will then receive a percentage of the revenue from each sale made through your promotion.

Method 2 For Building A Safety Net: Passive Digital Products

Passive digital products can be sold online without requiring ongoing effort from you after the initial setup. These products include:

  • E-Books

  • Pre-recorded Online Courses

  • Templates (Design Templates, Website Templates)

  • Checklists

and much more. Once created and uploaded to a platform (e.g. Kajabi), you will need to market your products through search based content or ads. However, once you get the right traffic to your content, you will need to do minimal additional work to generate more money!

Method 3 For Building A Safety Net: Membership With Low-Lift Support

This refers to a membership that requires minimal effort from you to maintain and manage. In this setup, the support and administrative tasks are kept to a minimum, often relying on automated systems and pre-recorded content. You will need to offer monthly content drops and encourage community driven support to keep members engaged and active.

2 Steps To Building Your Safety Net

Step 1: Choose Your Predictable Income Safety Net

  • Will you work on affiliate marketing, passive digital products or memberships with low-lift support?

  • If you want to build a safety net using passive digital products, what exactly will you sell?

  • If you want to build a safety net using affiliate marketing, which product(s) will you promote?

The key with affiliate marketing is to look for products you love that you would recommend even if there was no commission. If the product you are promoting offers lifetime commissions like the Kajabi Partner Program, that will be even better!

My tip here is to choose at least 2 products to begin with, so that you are not reliant on just 1 product or partner for your safety net.

Step 2: Start Promoting Using Search Based Content

For promoting your affiliate products, Sue McLachlan highlighted the best way for you to get commissions

  • Even while you sleep.

  • Even when you are going through a challenging period in your life.

  • Even when you break all the “rules”! (e.g. posting consistently, great lighting, tight editing, good scripts, awesome hooks)

Her secret?

Search Based Content!

To be specific, writing blogs that can attract readers who search on Google.

Yes.

SEO!

Or creating YouTube videos that can attract viewers who search on YouTube.

Yes.

YouTube SEO!

I loved how Sue put it more succinctly that I ever would. “Searchable content (e.g. Youtube Videos, Blogs) will keep working for you even when life happens and you need to give up for a while, even if you break all the rules!”.

More Tips From Sue Mclachlan

  1. Creating your safety net doesn’t have to become your whole business.

  2. Start with 1 piece of content per month and build from there.

  3. Consider promoting a SAAS product that you use (It may lead to clients for your products and services!).

  4. It will not happen overnight but it will happen.

  5. Don’t put off building your safety net till later. Start now.

Sue also reminded founders to take enough mental breaks and holidays.

Because most entrepreneurs don’t take enough leave. Imagine the leave you would have enjoyed over the years if you were an employee entitled to public holidays, sick leave, parental leave, annual leave and long service leave!

Don’t go, go and go until your mind and body cannot take it any more.

Take enough rest.

You deserve it.

Kajabi Event Day 2: Kajabi Roadmap, Kajabi Communities & More

Members of the Kajabi team also shared updates on Kajabi communities, Kajabi newsletters, Kajabi carts, Kajabi payments, Kajabi invoicing and other new and amazing features being added for Kajabi users! These segments assured me that Kajabi is adding all we need to be the all in one platform to build our ideal businesses.

And did I mention, I got a customised sneak peak into the new look of Kajabi communities? Here it is!

The Biggest Problems Kajabi Creators Face & How To Solve Them

During the 2 days at Kajabi Sessions Australia, we also had many opportunities to brainstorm with other course creators on their biggest challenges and ways to solve them! As one group succinctly put it, most creator problems could be nailed down into 3 categories:

Kajabi Creator Problem 1: Clarity

Clarity was a major issue that many course creators faced. And clarity is essential to every business before you can think of growing it. As a course creator, you need clarity in 3 areas:

  • The customers that you want to serve

  • The transformation that you will help your customers achieve

  • How you are going to deliver your offer (e.g. live coaching program, bootcamp, pre-recorded course, membership)

So reflect upon these questions, understand your strengths and weaknesses, speak to your potential customers and always continue refining your offer till you find the sweet spot. Once you land on that incredible offer solving a specific problem for a specific person, things get much easier!

Kajabi Creator Problem 2: Prioritisation

Prioritisation was another theme that came up multiple times during Kajabi Sessions Australia. As course creators and business owners, we need to spend our time on the most revenue generating activities. We need to focus on the areas that will move the needle for our business.

Some of these activities for course creators to focus on include:

  • Improving on your offer.

  • Reaching more potential customers through various marketing strategies.

  • Building systems and processes (and embracing Ai) that can save you time and help you scale.

Kajabi Creator Problem 3: Distraction

Someone at the Kajabi event joked about not having multiple tabs open on your internet browser to solve this distraction problem. And I laughed because it is somewhat true for me. Identifying other potential triggers that can distract you and keeping them away during your protected work time is key.

Taking sufficient breaks and holidays will prevent you from getting distracted during your work hours too.

What I Will Be Doing Differently After Kajabi Sessions Australia

“Never leave the scene of a decision without first taking a specific action toward its realization.” Tony Robbins often says. And to me, every event I attend presents me with a scene of decision.

Specifically, I like to ask myself, what steps will I be committed to now AFTER this event?

1. Revamp My SEO Program

While some of my students are already ranking on Google Page 1 as part of my 1 on 1 Done With You SEO program, I want to increase my student success rate and help my students progress faster. Specifically, I want to

  • Get my students to implement faster

  • Create a community for more accountability and motivation

  • Get my students faster results

As such, I plan to go back to group coaching and live launch my SEO program in a cohort by cohort basis soon! In the mean time, you can still book a 1 on 1 SEO Evaluation call with me here.

2. Work On My Safety Net Now

I want to work on building my safety nets NOW

  • In case my live launches fail.

  • In case I am not able to get students on board my SEO program as fast as I would like to.

2 products I love that I will start promoting as an affiliate this month: Kajabi and Skool! I am going to write blog posts around these tools and use SEO strategies to get traffic to my blogs.

3. Leverage Ai More

I have not been leveraging on artificial intelligence as much as I should. I will consider using Ai tools like Fathom, Chat GPT and more that can save me time and improve my output.

What other Ai Tools can I consider for my business? Let me know if you have suggestions.

4. Narrow Down On My Marketing Channels

While I would love to focus on ALL the marketing channels out there, I want to be realistic. I will start with writing SEO blog content in September.

In October, I will work on getting active on email marketing, LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram. I will hold off podcasts, YouTube & Tik Tok for now till I get consistent on the non audio and video centric platforms.

5. Take More Breaks

I always set this goal but don’t end up sticking to it. This time, I will make it a point to allocate short holidays at least once every 3 months. I will also take regular breaks throughout my day.

Kajabi Sessions Australia Conclusion

All in all, I enjoyed my time at Kajabi Sessions Australia. It was filled with lots of exciting feature updates from the Kajabi team, insightful learnings, fun networking and great roundtable tips (which I scribbled on the notepad provided). Now it is time to get to action!

If you would like to increase your leads and sales using the power of SEO, feel free to book a 1 on 1 SEO Evaluation Call with me here or download my 5 Step SEO Checklist To Rank On Google Page 1 here.
